Nicholas Stevenson Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home, a very English phrase that we all love to say. Yes, even you.
Our artist, Nicholas Stevenson, took this saying in a recent exhibition at the Atomica Gallery in collaboration with artist Angela Dalinger. The exhibition opened a sneak peek into the paintings of imaginary homes, including henry hoovers and ghosts in the kitchen! The two artists worked virtually alongside each other, offering their take on this phrase to have met only for the first time at the exhibition opening itself!
“Home Sweet Home was really fun to make, I got to collaborate with one of my favourite artists, and create some new personal work on a subject matter that’s interested me for a while. Often on London buses or trains at night, you catch brief glimpses of illuminated living rooms and kitchens through open curtains. Sometimes you see people bent over working on something mysterious, sometimes a large sculpture looms in a dark corner, or a cat stares out (real or porcelain?). Angela Dalinger's paintings often feature homes and moments of domestic calm interrupted by an atmosphere of unease, I wanted to expand on that theme and imagine the more exciting possible scenarios occurring in all those glimpsed London interiors.” Nicholas Stevenson on ‘Home Sweet Home’.
As the pieces were set alongside each other, the two artists spoke wonders through their paintbrush flicks and markings to really create a beautiful journey of paintings through the internal and external secrets of homes.
It really was Home Sweet Home.
