David Lawrence David Lawrence's new one pound coin design development for The Royal Mint
David Lawrence had already designed several coins for the Royal Mint when he was asked to develop the design for the New Pound Coin.
The image which will appear on the new coin was divined by means of a Competition open to the general public. There were some six thousand entries in all and, having weeded out the weird and wonderful, George Osborne finally decided upon a sketch provided by 15 year-old schoolboy David Pearce.
Well practiced in turning a scamp into a polished piece of artwork our valiant artist took Master Pearce’s drawing and turned it into the next Coin of the Realm.
Appearing in your pockets from 2017 onwards.
Keep your eyes peeled.
