Alex Green Hamilton & Inches Christmas Display
Christmas is just around the corner, and what better way to get into the festive spirit than Alex Green’s large scale illustration for Edinburgh based, high end family owned jewellers, Hamilton & Inches.
Commissioned by Art Director Anais Dimech at Illustrated London News, the brief was to create a wintery Christmas scene of the city, comprising many famous landmarks in the same image.
As it was impossible to accurately show these landmarks in the same image, Green set about making a drawing that completely remodelled the layout of Edinburgh, whilst trying to capture the spirit and tone of the place. Alex used photographic reference of the city and distant memories of his last visit, some 28 years ago to build the illustration.
Once he had arranged the locations, creating false roads and spaces, he let his imagination do the rest. It was very important to include the company's purple in the final image and after going through several colour schemes including a warm pink version of the image, which detracted somewhat from the purple, he arrived at a fairly atonal image. p>
The image was then printed and spliced in several places to set a backdrop for the company's stunning Christmas display. Very festive!
