Syd Brak You still have until September to enter to win a signed limited-edition print of the iconic Long Distance Kiss!
We’ve received so many great submissions to the competition so far that we’ve decided to keep it running for one more month! We’ve really enjoyed seeing all your ideas, so you still have time to show Folio and Syd your skills as an illustrator and bag yourself a classic piece of iconic artwork! Syd Brak has had somewhat of an illustrious career. In his own unique style, he’s created some of the most iconic images in modern illustration, none more so than his celebrated poster work for Athena. These are images that will forever evoke the lush, rich and powerful spirit of the 1980s and they continue to be loved for doing so. To celebrate Syd's work and Folio's 35th birthday, we’re asking you to re-imagine one of his most famous pieces, Long Distance Kiss. We’re looking for someone who can bridge the past with the present. You can be as imaginative as you want, but your illustration must rework, or take inspiration from, the original. Judged by the man himself, the winner will receive a signed, limited-edition print of the image in question. So if you fancy having a go at shedding new light on an old classic, send your entries through to: sarah@folioart.co.uk - CLOSING DATE SEPTEMBER 1st 2011. Please make sure your entries are: Lo-res image files. 2MB max. Thank you. We're looking forward to seeing what you can come up with!
Antoine Corbineau Illustrations for The Grange School Prospectus, 2011-2012
Antoine's playful style is always an explosion of colour and excitement, and his detailed and complex piece for The Grange School's prospectus this year is no exception. A series of spot illustrations hop from page to page throughout the publication, but the star of the show has to be his master illustration in the centre, which so brilliantly communicates to prospective students and their parents a world that is both inspiring and reassuring, bursting with ideas and opportunities. Antoine Corbineau showcases at Salon de Montrouge 2011 and Foreign Affairs
We're very pleased to see that Antoine's artwork was selected to appear at two exhibits this year - Salon de Montrouge; in its 56th year, is one of France's oldest and most influential annual art exhibits held just outside of Paris. Every year it introduces the world to the most outstanding young artists working today and sees 12000 visitors. This year, more than 1800 artists asked to have their work displayed at the Salon, but only 78 made the cut. His work was also selected to appear last Saturday May 14th, AR4T (Artists Republic For Tomorrow) in Laguna Beach, hosted the Human Pyramids Artist Collective’s second international group show, Foreign Affairs. Both shows finish this week, if you can't make it to either one - we've got some photos from both evenings here.
